(Yeah, it looks cool. And on the other painting I just put up, I learned that you have to scatter it lightly, because in clumps it doesn't really do anything.)

Does regular salt work, or do you have to get the large crystal sea salt like stuff? I've tried this technique a couple of times, but never really gotten much from it... I could have been putting too much on, though...

I used regular table salt. It seems to work differently with different colors of paint, and so probably with different brands, too. I scattered it fairly thinly over paint that was just shining-damp in some areas and dripping wet in others. It seems to have worked best on the areas in between.
